This 1816 building is located in the heart of the old town of Barcelona and has a privileged location on the corner of a small square that allows you to enjoy two facades to the street. The project, with the renovation of the windows with panoramic profiles, the entry of natural light to the main spaces of dining-kitchen and rooms.
The four-story building has a very small floor area and its apartments are affected by this. The installation of a new elevator leading directly to the apartments makes the apartments fully accessible.
The strategy taken in the project addresses these conditions by defragmenting the space, creating a single open space. This includes kitchen, dining room and living room that opens to the bedroom through a sliding door that hides inside the separation wall itself. An interior window at the top of this wall enhances the idea of a single space and the entry of light from the living area to the kitchen.
After a strong structural rehabilitation of the building, it was decided to preserve its essence showing the marks of its history through the recovered beams that star the space. The rest of the walls and the kitchen furniture are painted white to increase the brightness of the interior and provide a feeling of spaciousness.
The details of the decoration take up the original colors and wood as protagonists, and give it the modern and contemporary touch that a building of this age needs.
The flooring is one of the most outstanding aspects of the building as a whole. The wood on the floors combines with the beams at the top, the pavement in the bathrooms adds a unique touch and the pavement on the first floor is intended to imitate an outdoor space, almost as if the entrance were an extension of the street.
Every little detail is designed so that the space generates harmony among all its elements and evidences the idea of a unique space.
